  7. This two-hour video-training course teaches experienced UNIX users how to
  8. create command files, called shell scripts. In addition to simple command
  9. lines, the UNIX shell provides a complete set of programming commands that
  10. allow you to write entire applications using only UNIX tools and shell
  11. programming features. This course not only describes shell programming
  12. constructs in depth, but it also covers how to design and implement shell
  13. script applications. Specifically, the course shows how to maintain a database
  14. and create a menu interface using only shell commands
  15.  
  16. The video presentation is done by Ray Swartz, a noted UNIX trainer and author
  17. of the course textbook "UNIX Application Programming, Mastering the Shell." The
  18. text is accompanied by the course manual that provides reading assignments,
  19. additional exercises, and addendum.
